Prayers for Anxiety: Finding Calm in God's Presence
When the mind will not stop racing, let these words slow it down
Morning Prayer editorial team · Updated: November 2026
Scripture says to cast all your anxiety on God because He cares for you. This prayer is a way of doing exactly that, one worry at a time, with slow breaths between the lines.
Let us pray
Lord, my heart is racing and my thoughts will not be still. I am anxious about things that have happened, things that might happen, and things I cannot even name. I bring all of this to You, because You told me to.
I breathe in Your peace. I breathe out my fear.
You know the specific worries that circle in my mind. I name them to You now, one by one, and I imagine placing each one into Your hands. The health concern. The money. The relationship. The decision I keep putting off. The vague dread that follows me around. Take them, Lord. They are too heavy for me and too small for You.
I breathe in Your peace. I breathe out my fear.
Remind me that You are not surprised by anything that worries me. You stand already in every tomorrow I am afraid of. Nothing I fear is stronger than Your love, and nothing I fear can separate me from it.
Slow my breathing. Loosen my shoulders. Quiet the noise in my head so that I can hear Your voice saying, Do not be afraid. I am with you.
I breathe in Your peace. I breathe out my fear.
Lord Jesus, You calmed the storm with three words. Speak them over me now: Peace. Be still. I rest in You. Amen.
Blessing
May the peace of Christ, which passes all understanding, guard your mind and your heart today.

Frequently asked questions
Can prayer replace therapy or medication for anxiety?
No. Prayer and professional care work together. If anxiety is disrupting your life, please talk to a doctor or counselor. God works through them, too.
Why does this prayer include breathing lines?
Slow breathing calms the body while the words calm the soul. Repeating a short line while breathing is an ancient Christian practice that helps anxious minds settle into prayer.
What Bible verses help with anxiety?
Philippians 4:6-7, 1 Peter 5:7, Psalm 94:19, and Matthew 6:34 are often prayed by people struggling with worry. Reading one slowly before this prayer can help.
