Morning prayer for today: a fresh start with God
Placing this one day, with its tasks and worries, in God's hands
Morning Prayer editorial team · Updated: November 2026
Whatever today holds, begin it here. This Catholic morning prayer for today can be prayed on any day of the year; it takes the day exactly as it is, with its real tasks and real worries, and places it in God's hands.
Let us pray
Father in heaven, this is the day You have made. Not yesterday, which is already in Your mercy, and not tomorrow, which is still in Your keeping, but today. I receive it from You as a gift with my name on it.
Thank You for the night's rest, even if it was short. Thank You for the roof above me, the food I will eat, the work that waits for me, and the people who will cross my path. Open my eyes to see the small goodnesses I usually walk past.
You know what is on my calendar today, and You know the things that are not written down: the conversation I am dreading, the result I am waiting for, the ache I have told no one about. I put each of them into Your hands. Give me wisdom for the decisions, patience for the delays, and courage for the moment I would rather avoid.
Lord Jesus, walk ahead of me into every room I enter. Let my words be true and kind. Let my work be honest. If someone needs help today, do not let me be too busy to notice. If I fail, lift me up quickly and do not let me stay in the dust.
Holy Spirit, be the quiet undercurrent of this day. When I forget You by mid-morning, call me back with a breath, a bell, a glance at the sky. Mary, Mother of God, pray for me today, and when evening comes may I find that I have lived this one day well. Amen.
Blessing
May the Lord bless you this very day, in every hour of it, and bring you to its end in peace.

Frequently asked questions
Is this morning prayer different each day?
The words stay the same, but the day you bring to them changes. Pause at the line about your calendar and name, silently or aloud, the specific things you are facing today. That is what makes it today's prayer.
What if I only have one minute?
Pray the first and last paragraphs. Receiving the day from God and asking Mary to pray for you is already a complete morning prayer. Return to the full text when you have more time.
Can I pray this later in the morning, or at noon?
Yes. God does not keep office hours. If you remember at your desk or in the car, pray it then. The point is to turn the day toward God, whenever you manage to begin.
