Saint Martin de Porres, Religious ยท Tuesday of the 31st Week in Ordinary Time
Morning prayer
Tuesday is the day the Church traditionally dedicates to the holy angels, and the day of the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary. With Monday behind you and the week now fully underway, this Tuesday morning prayer asks for steady focus, the company of your guardian angel, and the courage to carry whatever the day brings.
Lord God, Monday is behind me and the week has found its pace. On this Tuesday morning I come to You not with the fresh energy of a beginning, but with the plain willingness to keep going. Take that willingness and make something of it.
Thank You for the night, for the breath in my body, for the work that waits for me and the people who depend on me. Thank You for yesterday's small victories and for the mistakes You have already forgiven.
This is the day of the angels. Holy guardian angel, you have been beside me since before I could speak; walk with me today. Keep my feet from stumbling, my tongue from wounding, my mind from wandering into fear. Saint Michael, defend me from the enemy's whispers. Saint Gabriel, help me hear what God is saying. Saint Raphael, heal what is hurting in me and in those I love.
It is also the day of the Sorrowful Mysteries. Lord Jesus, if this Tuesday brings a share in Your cross, a hard conversation, a disappointment, a pain that will not lift, let me carry it beside You and not alone. And if it brings joy, let me notice and give thanks.
Bless the people I will meet today: the ones I love, the ones who try my patience, the stranger who needs a kind word. Bring my family home safely tonight. Let this ordinary Tuesday, lived with You, become a holy one. Amen.
May your guardian angel walk beside you this Tuesday, and may the Lord give you steady strength for every task of the day.
Midday prayer
Jesus taught us to ask for daily bread, not a year's supply. This prayer asks only for what today requires, and leaves tomorrow where it belongs.
Lord, I do not know everything that today will hold, but You do. So I come to You not for a map of the whole journey, only for enough light for the next step.
Give me today the strength I need for today. Not the strength for next week's problems, which I cannot carry yet, but the strength for this morning's conversation, this afternoon's work, this evening's tiredness.
Give me today the patience I need for today: for the person who will interrupt me, for the plan that will fall apart, for my own slowness to learn.
Give me today the courage I need for today: to tell the truth kindly, to ask for help, to try again at the thing I failed at yesterday.
Give me today the joy I need for today. Open my eyes to one beautiful thing I would otherwise walk past. Let me laugh at least once. Let me notice someone who needs a kind word and give it.
And when today ends, let me hand it back to You without regret, trusting that You will meet me again in the morning with new mercy. One day at a time, Lord. That is all You ask, and that is all I need. Amen.
May God give you this day your daily bread, and peace enough for every hour of it.
Evening prayer
This is the last prayer of the day, meant to be said with the lights low. If you struggle to fall asleep, pray it slowly and let each line loosen the grip of the day.
Father in heaven, the house is quiet now and I am ready to rest. I lie down under Your gaze, knowing that You neither slumber nor sleep, and that nothing can happen tonight that is beyond Your care.
Take from me the weight of today. The things I said that I wish I could take back, the things I left undone, the conversation that is still replaying in my head: I give them all to You. You are big enough to hold them, and I am too tired to carry them any longer.
Quiet my racing thoughts. Where fear whispers, let Your voice be louder. Where I am tempted to plan tomorrow in the dark, remind me that You already stand in tomorrow waiting for me.
Station Your angels around this home. Keep every door and every heart within it safe. Bless the people I love, near and far, and give them the same peace I ask for myself.
If I wake in the night, let my first thought be of You. If I dream, let my dreams be gentle. If this night should be my last, receive me in Your mercy.
Lord Jesus, You slept in a boat during a storm because You trusted the Father completely. Give me that same trust tonight. Into Your hands I place my body, my mind, and my soul. Amen.
Sleep in peace, for the Lord who watches over you does not sleep.
