Armor of God prayer to put on each morning
Dressing in truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word, piece by piece

In his letter to the Ephesians, Saint Paul tells Christians to put on the whole armor of God: truth, righteousness, the Gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word. This armor of god prayer dresses you piece by piece each morning, so that you go into the day protected and ready to stand firm.
Let us pray
Lord God, this morning I put on the armor You have given me, piece by piece, because I know the day will have its battles and I do not want to face them unprotected.
I fasten the belt of truth around my waist. Keep me honest today, with others and with myself. Let no lie, however small or convenient, pass my lips, and let me see through the lies that will be told to me.
I put on the breastplate of righteousness. Guard my heart from the sins that aim at it: resentment, envy, lust, greed. Let what I do today be right in Your eyes, even when no one is watching.
I lace up my feet with the readiness of the Gospel of peace. Let me walk into every room as a peacemaker, quick to listen and slow to anger, carrying good news instead of gossip.
I take up the shield of faith. When the flaming arrows come, doubt, discouragement, fear of the future, let them strike the shield and go out. I believe in You, Lord; strengthen my belief.
I put on the helmet of salvation. Protect my mind from despair and from the thought that I am beyond Your love. I am saved by Your Son's cross, and no one can take that from me.
I take the sword of the Spirit, which is Your Word. Give me a verse to carry today, and bring it to my mind at the moment I need it.
Now, armed by You and not by my own strength, I stand. Pray in me, Holy Spirit, at all times and in every place. Keep me alert and persevering, and bring me through this day a faithful soldier of Christ. Amen.
Blessing
May you go into this day clothed in the armor of God, standing firm in His strength and resting in His peace tonight.

Frequently asked questions
Where is the armor of God in the Bible?
Ephesians 6:10-18. Saint Paul, probably writing from prison and looking at a Roman soldier, lists the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of the Gospel of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and sword of the Spirit, and ends by urging constant prayer.
When should I pray the armor of God prayer?
In the morning, as you dress, is the natural time; some people say one line for each piece of clothing they put on. It is also a strong prayer before a difficult meeting, a journey, or a situation where you expect temptation.
Is the armor of God prayer Catholic?
Yes. It comes straight from Scripture, which belongs to the whole Church, and Catholics have meditated on this passage for two thousand years. It pairs naturally with the Saint Michael prayer and the Rosary.
