Monday morning prayer to hand the new week to God
Strength for the uphill road, a blessing on work and coworkers, protection for the family

Monday carries the weight of the whole week ahead, and many of us meet it with a sigh. This Monday morning prayer turns that sigh into an offering: a new week handed to God before the first email, the first commute, the first meeting.
Let us pray
Lord, it is Monday. The week stretches out in front of me like an uphill road, and I am not sure I have the legs for it. So before I take the first step, I give You the whole week: the five days, the deadlines, the people, the surprises You already know about and I do not.
Thank You for the rest of Sunday, for the Mass I attended, for the meal and the sleep. Let what I received yesterday carry me into today. Let the Gospel I heard not evaporate by nine o'clock.
Bless my work this week. Whether I sit at a desk, stand at a counter, drive a truck, teach a class, or care for little ones at home, let me do it as if You were the one I was serving, because You are. Give me competence and honesty. Keep me from cutting corners and from cutting people down.
Bless the people I will work beside. The boss who is under pressure, the colleague who is hard to like, the customer who is rude because something is wrong at home. Let me be the calm one in the room, the one who gives others the benefit of the doubt.
Guard my family while we are apart today, and bring us home to each other tonight. And if this week brings something hard that I cannot see yet, let me remember this Monday morning, when I handed it all to You, and trust that You kept it. Saint Joseph, patron of workers, pray for me. Amen.
Blessing
May the Lord bless the week you have placed in His hands, and may you meet every Monday task with His strength and peace.
How to pray this prayer

Frequently asked questions
Why pray especially on Monday morning?
Monday sets the tone for the week. Handing the whole week to God on its first morning is like the offering of first fruits in Scripture: whatever comes, it has already been given to Him.
Is there a saint to pray to for work on Monday?
Saint Joseph, the carpenter who provided for the Holy Family, is the patron of workers. Traditionally Monday is also dedicated to the Holy Spirit and to the souls in purgatory, so many people add a short prayer for the dead on Mondays.
Can I pray this on the way to work?
Yes. Praying in the car, on the train, or while walking is a long Christian tradition. If you are driving, pray it from memory or listen to it rather than reading.
