Miracle prayer: asking Jesus for the impossible
A plain, trusting request for a miracle, leaving the answer in His hands
Morning Prayer editorial team · Updated: November 2026
Sometimes only a miracle will do, and we know it. This miracle prayer asks Jesus plainly for what seems impossible, with the trust of the people who came to Him in the Gospels, and leaves the answer in His hands.
Let us pray
Lord Jesus, You turned water into wine, calmed the sea with a word, gave sight to the blind, and called Lazarus out of the tomb. Nothing is impossible for You. I come to You today because I need a miracle, and I have no one else to ask.
You know my situation better than I do: (name it). Every human door has closed. The doctors have said what they can say, the money has run out, the person I love will not listen, the years have passed. I am not asking You to bend to my plans. I am asking You to do what only You can do.
I believe in You. I believe You are alive, that You hear me now, and that You still work wonders in this world. Where my faith is thin, strengthen it. Like the centurion I say: only speak the word. Like the woman with the hemorrhage I reach for the hem of Your garment. Like Martha I say: even now, Lord, I know that whatever You ask of the Father, He will give You.
If the miracle I ask for is not the one You want to give, then give me the other miracle: a heart at peace, the strength to carry what I cannot change, and eyes to see Your hand even in the dark. Let no answer, or a different answer, drive me away from You.
I surrender this need to You, Jesus, and I thank You in advance for whatever You will do, because I know it will be good. You are Lord, and I trust You. Amen.
Blessing
May the Lord who still works wonders look upon your need with love, and may you find Him close whatever He chooses to give.

Frequently asked questions
Does God still perform miracles today?
Yes. The Church investigates healings and other events carefully, and many have been recognized, for example in the canonization of saints and at shrines such as Lourdes. Most of God's miracles, however, are quiet: conversions, reconciliations, strength that could not have come from ourselves.
What if the miracle does not come?
An unanswered prayer is not an unheard prayer. Jesus Himself prayed in Gethsemane that the cup might pass, and it did not. God sometimes gives a different gift than the one we asked for; keep praying, keep trusting, and let Him carry the outcome.
How should I pray this miracle prayer?
Pray it daily, slowly, naming your need out loud. Many people join it to Mass, to a novena, or to fasting. Asking others to pray with you, as the friends of the paralyzed man carried him to Jesus, is also deeply biblical.
