3rd step prayer: turning my will and my life over to God
A Christian prayer of surrender for recovery and for anyone who needs to let go

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
— John 6:51 (KJV)
Reflection
Today is an ordinary Thursday in the 31st week of Ordinary Time, and Thursdays carry a quiet tradition: we turn our hearts to the Holy Eucharist and pray for priests. Jesus does not offer us an idea or a lesson here. He offers himself, the living bread, given for the life of the world. Every time a priest lifts the host at Mass, this promise becomes close enough to receive.
November adds another layer. This is the month when many of us remember those who have died, light a candle, or stand for a moment at a grave. The words "he shall live for ever" speak directly into that ache. The bread Christ gives is not only food for the road; it is a pledge that the road leads somewhere, and that love is not ended by death. When you pray for your departed today, you can hold them in the light of this promise.
Perhaps you can make a small visit to a church this week, even for five minutes, and sit before the tabernacle. Bring the names of those you miss. Bring the priest who baptized you or who serves your parish now. Let the living bread feed the hope you need for today.
A short prayer with this verse
Lord Jesus, living bread come down from heaven, thank you for giving yourself to us in the Eucharist. Feed my weary heart today and teach me to hunger for you above all else. Bless the priests who offer your sacrifice at the altar; keep them faithful, joyful and close to you. I entrust to you all who have died, especially those I love. Grant them the life that lasts for ever, and keep me in hope until we meet again in your presence. Amen.
