Prayer for Protection from Evil and Spiritual Harm
Claiming the victory of Christ over every work of darkness
Morning Prayer editorial team · Updated: November 2026
Christians believe that evil is real but that Christ has already won. This prayer does not fear the darkness; it stands firmly in the light of the cross and asks God to keep every evil far away.
Let us pray
In the name of Jesus Christ, I ask You, Father, to protect me from all evil.
Surround me with the light of Your presence. Where darkness tries to enter my thoughts, my home, or my relationships, let it find no room. Cover me with the precious blood of Your Son, which has already defeated every power of sin and death.
Protect me from the evil I can see: from those who would harm me, deceive me, or lead me into wrongdoing. Protect me from the evil I cannot see: from temptation that disguises itself as reason, from discouragement that pretends to be realism, from the quiet voice that says I am alone and unloved.
Break every chain of fear, addiction, resentment, and despair that has any hold on me or on those I love. Fill the empty places with Your Holy Spirit so that nothing else can occupy them.
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Holy angels, stand guard around this household. Mary, Mother of God, crush beneath your feet whatever would destroy your children.
Lord Jesus, You cast out demons with a word and told Your followers not to be afraid. I am not afraid, because You are with me. Let the enemy flee at the sound of Your name, and let me walk in freedom, peace, and holiness all my days. Amen.

May the Lord rebuke every evil, and may the peace of Christ, which no darkness can overcome, dwell in your heart.

Frequently asked questions
Is it normal to feel afraid when praying about evil?
A little uneasiness is understandable, but Christian prayer about evil is rooted in confidence, not fear. Christ has won. Praying this should leave you calmer, not more anxious.
What if I believe I am facing serious spiritual oppression?
Pray, receive the sacraments, and speak to a priest. The Church takes these matters seriously and has pastoral help available. Do not try to face it alone.
