Prayer for my daughter: protection, worth, and faith

A parent's prayer for a daughter of any age, entrusted to God and to Saint Anne

Morning Prayer editorial team · Updated: November 2026

A daughter grows up in a world that will tell her a thousand things about who she should be. This prayer for my daughter asks God to protect her, to show her her true worth, and to guide her steps, whether she is a little girl, a teenager, or a grown woman with a family of her own.

Let us pray

Loving Father, You knit my daughter together in the womb and You have known her name from before time. Today I speak it to You again: (name). She is Yours before she is mine. Keep her.

Protect her body. Keep her safe on the roads and in the crowds, in her school and her workplace, in the places I can see and the places I cannot. Guard her health, her sleep, her strength. Shield her from anyone who would use or harm her.

Protect her heart. The world will measure her by her looks, her grades, her followers, her usefulness. Let her hear instead what You say: that she is made in Your image, loved without condition, worth the Blood of Your Son. Give her true friends, and when the time comes, if it is Your will, a husband who sees her as You do.

Protect her faith. If she is close to You, keep her close. If she has wandered, go after her as the shepherd goes after the one sheep, and bring her home in Your own time. Let her know she can always come back, to You and to us.

Give her wisdom for her decisions, courage for her fears, and joy in the gifts You have given her. Make her strong without being hard, gentle without being weak, like Mary.

Heal whatever is wounded between us, Lord. Where I have been too strict or too absent, forgive me. Where she has hurt me, give me a parent's heart that keeps the door open. Saint Anne, mother of Mary, pray for my daughter. Holy Mother, take her by the hand. Amen.

Blessing

May the Lord keep your daughter in the palm of His hand, and may she always know how deeply she is loved, by Him and by you.

Frequently asked questions

Which saints can I ask to pray for my daughter?

Saint Anne, the mother of the Blessed Virgin, is the natural patroness of daughters and of mothers. Saint Agnes and Saint Maria Goretti are invoked for young girls, Saint Therese of Lisieux for teenagers and young women, and Our Lady is mother to every daughter.

How do I pray for an adult daughter without interfering in her life?

Prayer is the one place where a parent can be fully involved without overstepping. Pray daily, say little, love much, and trust God with the timing. Saint Monica's long, quiet prayer for Augustine is the model.

What if my daughter has left the faith?

Keep praying, keep the relationship warm, and avoid turning every conversation into an argument. God often works through the witness of a parent's peace and patience more than through words. Many children return years later, carrying the prayers they did not know were said for them.
