Spiritual warfare prayers for daily protection
Renouncing the enemy's lies and standing firm in Christ's victory
Morning Prayer editorial team · Updated: November 2026
Saint Paul reminds us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual powers, and that we fight with faith, truth, prayer, and the Word of God. These spiritual warfare prayers are for a layperson's daily use: they ask Christ's protection, renounce evil, and call on Mary, Saint Michael, and the angels. They are not an exorcism, which belongs to the Church's priests.
Let us pray
Lord Jesus Christ, You have already won. On the cross You disarmed the powers of darkness and on Easter morning You left them an empty tomb. I do not fight from fear today; I fight from Your victory. Cover me with Your Precious Blood.
In Your name I renounce every lie the enemy has planted in my mind: that I am unloved, that my sins are too great, that nothing will change, that I am alone. I renounce every temptation to despair, to anger, to lust, to pride. I belong to You by my Baptism, and I renew that belonging now.
Protect my home. Let no evil enter here, through screens or words or habits. Protect my marriage, my children, and everyone who sleeps under this roof. Where the enemy has sown division, sow peace. Where he has sown fear, sow trust.
Holy Spirit, clothe me in the armor of God: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of Your Word. Let me stand firm, not in my own strength, which is small, but in Yours.
Mary, Immaculate Mother, you crush the serpent's head; place me under your mantle. Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Holy guardian angels, surround this house. All you saints, pray for us.
Lord, when the day's battle is over, let me rest in You. You are my fortress and my deliverer, and I will not be afraid. Amen.
Blessing
May Christ the victor be your shield today, and may you walk in the freedom He has already won for you.

Frequently asked questions
What is spiritual warfare?
It is the Christian's daily struggle against temptation, discouragement, and the influence of the devil, fought not with anxiety but with prayer, the sacraments, Scripture, and trust in Christ's victory. Ephesians 6:10-18 is the classic description.
Is this prayer an exorcism or deliverance prayer?
No. It is a prayer of protection and renunciation that any baptized person may pray. Formal exorcism is reserved to priests appointed by the bishop. If you believe you or your home are seriously troubled, speak with your parish priest.
What is the best defense in spiritual warfare?
A life of grace: regular Confession, the Eucharist, daily prayer, Scripture, and the Rosary. Sacramentals such as holy water and the Saint Benedict medal help, but the sacraments and a humble, honest life are the heart of it.
