Morning Prayer to Begin Your Day with God

Offering the whole day, its work and its surprises, into God's hands

Morning Prayer editorial team · Updated: November 2026

Before the first message, the first task, the first worry, take two quiet minutes to hand this day over to God. Pray slowly, and let the words become your own.

Let us pray

Lord God, before the noise of this day begins, I turn my heart to You. Thank You for the gift of waking, for breath in my lungs, for the light coming through the window, and for the people I will meet today. Everything I have comes from Your hand.

I offer You this day: my work and my rest, my conversations and my silences, the plans I have made and the surprises I cannot foresee. Take them all and make them holy. Where I am tempted to rush, slow me down. Where I am tempted to despair, lift my eyes to You.

Give me a clear mind for the tasks ahead and a gentle spirit toward those who test my patience. Let me speak words that build up and not tear down. Help me to see Christ in the faces of my family, my coworkers, and the stranger who crosses my path.

Protect me from harm of body and soul. Keep my loved ones safe wherever they go. If sorrow comes today, stay close to me; if joy comes, let me share it freely and give You the thanks.

At the end of this day, may I look back and see that I walked with You, step by step, and that nothing was wasted in Your sight. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best time for morning prayer?

The best time is the first quiet moment you can protect, ideally before you check your phone. Even two or three minutes at the kitchen table or on the edge of the bed is enough to orient the day toward God.

Do I have to use these exact words?

No. A written prayer is a doorway, not a cage. Pray the text slowly, then add your own thanksgiving and intentions in your own words. Over time the structure will become natural.

What if I forget to pray in the morning?

Simply pray when you remember, even at noon. God does not keep a time clock. Placing a card by your coffee maker or setting a gentle reminder can help build the habit.
