Before the house goes quiet, gather the family, or pray alone for everyone under your roof and beyond it. This night prayer for family thanks God for the day, asks forgiveness for its failures, and places every sleeper under His protection until morning.
Let us pray
Father, the day is over and the house is growing quiet. Before we sleep, we come to You together, as a family, with everything this day held.
Thank You for keeping us safe today: on the roads, at work, at school, at home. Thank You for the food we ate and the laughter we shared, and for the hard moments too, which You used to teach us something. Thank You for each person in this family, the ones in these rooms and the ones far away.
Forgive us for the ways we hurt each other today: the sharp tone, the slammed door, the thing we promised and forgot. Let no one in this house go to sleep angry. Where there is a wall between two of us tonight, begin to take it down while we rest.
Watch over our sleep. Send Your angels to stand at every bed. Keep away bad dreams, sickness, and every harm of body and soul. Give deep rest to the one who is exhausted, peace to the one who is anxious, and healing to the one who is ill. Let the little ones sleep without fear and the grown-ups without worry.
Remember the members of our family who are not under this roof: the grandparents, the one who is traveling, the one who is struggling. Hold them through the night as closely as You hold us.
Mary, Mother of the Holy Family, keep watch over this one. Saint Joseph, guard our door. Jesus, stay with us. And when morning comes, wake us ready to love You and each other again. Amen.
Blessing
May God guard your home through this night, give every sleeper rest, and wake you all in peace tomorrow.

Frequently asked questions
How do we pray at night with young children?
Keep it short and the same every night: a thank-you, a sorry, a blessing on each person by name, and the Sign of the Cross. Let the children add their own thank-yous. The rhythm matters more than the length, and they will remember it for life.
What if some family members will not join in?
Pray anyway, with whoever is willing, and pray for the others by name. Do not force or shame; a parent's quiet, faithful prayer is often what draws a reluctant teenager or spouse back in time.
Can I pray this alone for a family that is far away?
Yes. Many parents and grandparents pray it every night for children and grandchildren in other cities or countries. God is not limited by distance, and your prayer reaches them wherever they sleep.
