Easter prayer: Christ is risen, alleluia
Joy in the Resurrection, renewal of Baptism, and a blessing for the Easter table
Morning Prayer editorial team ยท Updated: November 2026
Christ is risen, and everything is different. This Easter prayer can be prayed on Easter morning, before the Easter meal with family, or on any day of the fifty-day Easter season, to let the joy of the Resurrection reach into your real life.
Let us pray
Risen Lord Jesus, the stone is rolled away and the tomb is empty. Alleluia. On Friday they laid You in the dark, and this morning the women found only folded linen and an angel asking why they were looking for the living among the dead. Let me stop looking for You there too.
I bring You the places in my life that feel like tombs: the grief I have not finished, the relationship that seems dead, the sin I keep burying and digging up, the hope I let go of a long time ago. Roll the stones away. Speak my name as You spoke Mary Magdalene's in the garden, and let me recognize You.
Thank You for the long road of Lent that brought me here, for the Confession that lightened me, for the Vigil fire in the darkness, for the water of Baptism that made me Yours. Renew in me today the promises of my Baptism: I reject sin, I believe in You, I belong to You.
Bless this house on Easter day. Bless the table, the eggs and the lamb, the children hunting for chocolate, the grandparents who have kept this feast for seventy years. Bless those who could not be with us and those who have gone ahead of us into the life You opened today. Let our celebration be loud enough for the neighbors to wonder why.
Send me out like the disciples from Emmaus, running back with the news. Let my face, my words, and my patience over the coming weeks tell people that I have seen the Lord. Christ is risen; He is truly risen. Amen.
Blessing
May the risen Christ fill your home with Easter joy, and may every stone in your life be rolled away by His power.

Frequently asked questions
How long does the Easter season last?
Fifty days, from Easter Sunday to Pentecost. The first eight days, the Octave of Easter, are celebrated as solemnities, and the whole season is a time of joy, Alleluias, and renewed faith in the Resurrection. This prayer suits any day of it.
Is there a Catholic custom of blessing Easter food?
Yes. In many cultures, especially Polish, Slovak, and Italian families, baskets of eggs, bread, lamb, and salt are brought to church on Holy Saturday for a blessing and eaten on Easter morning. Praying this prayer before the meal continues that tradition at home.
Why renew baptismal promises at Easter?
Easter is the night of Baptism; the Church welcomes new members at the Vigil and invites everyone to renew the promises made at their own Baptism. Repeating them in your prayer makes Easter personal: Christ rose so that you could rise with Him.
