Morning prayer for family before the day begins
A short, powerful prayer placing every member of the household under God's care

A family rarely starts the day together in peace: someone cannot find a shoe, someone is late, someone is already grumpy. This morning prayer for family takes a single minute at the door or the breakfast table and places everyone, present and absent, under God's care for the day.
Let us pray
Lord God, before this family scatters in all directions, we stand together for one moment in front of You. Thank You for the night, for this house, and for each person in it, even the ones who are not fully awake yet.
Bless the ones going to work. Give them patience with difficult people, honesty in every task, and safe roads there and back. Bless the ones going to school. Help them to learn, to be kind to the child no one sits with, and to come home with stories to tell. Bless the ones staying home, whose work is quiet and often unthanked; see what they do, Lord, and let us see it too.
Bless the members of our family who are far away this morning: the grandparent who wakes up alone, the son or daughter in another city, the one we are worried about. Hold them as close as if they were in this kitchen.
Guard us today from accidents and from harm, from sharp words and from the small selfishness that spoils an evening. If one of us fails today, let the rest be quick to forgive. Teach us to pray for each other during the day, a quick word at a red light or between meetings.
Mary and Joseph, who raised Jesus in an ordinary home, pray for this one. Bring us all back under this roof tonight, tired but at peace, and ready to thank You together. Amen.
Blessing
May God go with every member of your family today, and gather you all safely home again tonight.

Frequently asked questions
How can we get children to join a morning prayer?
Keep it very short, say it at the same moment every day (by the door, at the table), and let a child lead one line or name one person to bless. A sixty-second prayer prayed daily shapes a child more than a long one prayed rarely.
Who should lead the family prayer?
Anyone. Traditionally a parent leads, but rotating among family members, including children, helps everyone own it. The point is that the family prays together, not who says the words.
What if our family is never in the same room in the morning?
Pray it yourself for all of them, naming each one. Some families send the prayer by text to the group chat, or each person prays it wherever they are at an agreed time. God hears a scattered family as clearly as a gathered one.
