The Holy Spirit is the most forgotten Person of the Trinity and the one closest to us. Pray this when you need wisdom for a decision, strength for a weakness, or simply new life in a tired faith.
Let us pray
Come, Holy Spirit. Fill the heart You created and kindle in it the fire of Your love.
Spirit of God, I confess that I often pray to the Father and to Jesus and forget You, though You are the very breath of my prayer. Forgive me, and come anyway.
Come with wisdom. I have a decision in front of me and I do not know what to do. Show me what is true and give me the humility to follow it even if it costs me.
Come with understanding. Open the Scriptures to me so that they are not just words on a page but the voice of God speaking to my situation.
Come with counsel. Guide my conversations today so that I say what builds up and hold back what tears down.
Come with fortitude. I am weak where I most need to be strong. Be my strength in the temptation I keep failing, the fear I keep feeding, the duty I keep avoiding.
Come with knowledge, piety, and holy fear, so that I may know God, love Him, and never take Him lightly.
Spirit of the living God, You hovered over the waters at creation and descended at Pentecost in wind and fire. Hover over the chaos in my life and bring order. Descend on my cold heart and bring fire. Renew me, teach me, lead me, and make me a place where You are glad to live. Amen.
