Divine Mercy novena: nine days to the fountain of mercy
A nine-day prayer bringing different souls to Jesus each day
Morning Prayer editorial team ยท Updated: November 2026
Jesus asked Saint Faustina to prepare for the Feast of Mercy with a novena beginning on Good Friday, bringing a different group of souls to Him each day. The words He dictated are published by the Marian Fathers; this page offers an original novena prayer in the same spirit, with the traditional intention for each of the nine days.
Let us pray
Merciful Jesus, from Your pierced side flowed blood and water, the fountain of mercy for the whole world. During these nine days I come to that fountain, not alone, but carrying with me the souls You have asked me to bring. I trust in You.
I do not come because I deserve mercy; I come because You are mercy. You told Saint Faustina that the greater the sinner, the greater the right to Your compassion. So I bring my own sins first, and then the sins and sorrows of everyone I love, and then the whole weary world.
Immerse all of us in the ocean of Your mercy. Heal what is wounded, soften what is hardened, find what is lost. Let me not only receive mercy but learn to give it: with my words, my patience, and my forgiveness toward those who have hurt me.
Day 1: All mankind, especially sinners.
Day 2: Priests and religious.
Day 3: All devout and faithful souls.
Day 4: Those who do not believe in God and those who do not yet know Jesus.
Day 5: Christians who are separated from the Catholic Church.
Day 6: The meek and humble, and the souls of little children.
Day 7: Those who especially honor and glorify Your mercy.
Day 8: The souls in purgatory.
Day 9: Souls who have grown lukewarm.
Eternal Father, look upon all these souls through the wounds of Your Son, and for the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Jesus, I trust in You. Amen.
Blessing
May the mercy of Jesus cover you and everyone you carry in your heart, and may you become, in turn, a channel of that mercy to others.
