Padre Pio healing prayer for body and soul
Asking Saint Pio of Pietrelcina to intercede for someone who is sick
Morning Prayer editorial team · Updated: November 2026
Saint Pio of Pietrelcina (1887–1968), the Capuchin friar who bore the wounds of Christ, spent his life in the confessional and built a hospital he called the Home for the Relief of Suffering. His own written prayers remain under copyright, so this is an original prayer asking his intercession for healing, written in his spirit of trust: pray, hope, and don't worry.
Let us pray
Saint Padre Pio, humble friar of Pietrelcina, you carried in your own body the wounds of Jesus for fifty years, and you never used them to draw attention to yourself, only to point to Him. You know what pain is. You know the long nights, the weakness, the fear that comes with sickness. I come to you now as so many came to San Giovanni Rotondo, asking you to pray for healing.
Intercede for (name) who is ill. Ask the Lord, if it is His holy will, to restore health of body: to steady the heart, to quiet the pain, to give strength to the limbs and clarity to the mind. Guide the doctors and nurses, and bless the hands that care.
But you taught that the deepest healing is of the soul. So ask also for the healing that lasts: forgiveness of sins, release from old resentments, freedom from the fear of death, and a heart that can say with you, pray, hope, and don't worry.
You spent hours each day in the confessional so that souls could be made whole. Lead me back to that sacrament. Let me not only beg for a cure but open my whole life to the Divine Physician.
Lord Jesus, who worked through Your servant Pio and who still heals today, lay Your hand on the sick I carry in my heart. Give them Your peace, which is already a kind of healing, and if it pleases You, give them back their health, that they may praise You for many years. Saint Pio, pray for us. Amen.

May Saint Padre Pio pray for you and for those you love, and may the Lord grant the healing He knows you need most.

Frequently asked questions
Who was Padre Pio?
Francesco Forgione, Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, was an Italian Capuchin priest who received the stigmata in 1918 and was known for his long hours hearing confessions, his gift of reading hearts, and the hospital he founded. He died in 1968, was canonized in 2002, and his feast is September 23.
Is this one of Padre Pio's own prayers?
No. Padre Pio's writings, including his well-known prayer after Communion, are protected by copyright, so this page offers an original prayer in his spirit. His own words can be found in authorized collections from his friary.
How should I pray for a sick person through Padre Pio?
Many people pray this prayer daily for nine days as a novena, ideally alongside a visit to Confession and Mass, as Padre Pio would have urged. Keep praying for the person after the nine days, trusting God with the outcome.
