Pray the Rosary today: mysteries for each day of the week
A prayer of intention to begin and a closing prayer, whichever mysteries the day calls for
Morning Prayer editorial team · Updated: November 2026
Whatever day it is, there is a set of mysteries waiting for you: Joyful on Monday and Saturday, Sorrowful on Tuesday and Friday, Glorious on Wednesday and Sunday, Luminous on Thursday. This page helps you pray the Rosary today with a prayer of intention to begin and a prayer to close.
Let us pray
Mary, Mother of God and my Mother, today I take up the Rosary. I do not know how much attention I will manage; my mind is already pulling toward the day's tasks. But I know you accept the Rosary of a distracted child as gladly as the Rosary of a saint. So I begin.
Before the first bead, I name my intentions: for my family, by name; for the one who is sick; for the one who is far from God; for peace in the world and in my own heart; and for the grace I need most today, which you already know.
Today's mysteries are: Joyful if it is Monday or Saturday, when I walk with you from the Annunciation to the finding of Jesus in the Temple. Sorrowful if it is Tuesday or Friday, when I kneel with you from the Garden to Calvary. Glorious if it is Wednesday or Sunday, when I rejoice with you from the empty tomb to your crowning in heaven. Luminous if it is Thursday, when I follow your Son from the Jordan to the Last Supper.
Whichever mysteries I pray, let me look at Jesus through your eyes. Let the Hail Marys become a quiet rhythm under my thoughts, and when I drift, bring me gently back.
Closing prayer: Mary, I have finished this Rosary, imperfectly as always. Take the decades I prayed well and the ones I rushed, and offer them to your Son. Let what I have meditated today change how I live today. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.
Blessing
May the Rosary you pray today bring you closer to Jesus through Mary, and may its peace stay with you long after the last bead.
How to pray this prayer

Frequently asked questions
Which Rosary mysteries are prayed today?
Monday and Saturday: Joyful. Tuesday and Friday: Sorrowful. Wednesday and Sunday: Glorious. Thursday: Luminous. During Advent the Joyful Mysteries are often prayed on Sunday, and during Lent the Sorrowful, but any set may be prayed on any day.
How long does it take to pray the Rosary?
Five decades take about fifteen to twenty minutes at an unhurried pace. Praying it while walking, driving (from memory), or doing quiet chores is a long-standing and perfectly acceptable practice.
Is it all right to pray only one decade?
Yes. One decade prayed with attention is a true Rosary prayer, and many busy people spread the five decades across the day. Saint John Paul II encouraged this; the point is to stay with Mary and Jesus, not to meet a quota.
