Morning prayer

First Friday morning prayer to the Sacred Heart

Thanksgiving for a new day, an offering of work and loved ones, and a plea for strength and protection

Before the day gathers speed, pause for a moment with the Heart of Jesus. Bring him your thanks, your plans and the people you love, and let him carry what is heavy.

Father of mercy, thank you for the gift of waking this Friday morning. Before the noise of the day begins, I place in your hands my breath, my thoughts and every hour you have entrusted to me.

Lord Jesus, on this First Friday of November I turn to your Sacred Heart, pierced for love of us on the cross. You said, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls" (Matthew 11:28-29). I come to you now with my work, my unfinished tasks and the worries I carried to bed last night. Teach me your gentleness when I am tired, and your humility when I want to be right.

I offer you everyone I will meet today: my family at the breakfast table, colleagues and neighbours, the friend who needs a call, the person who tests my patience. Let my small sacrifices this Friday be joined to your Passion, and make my words kind and my hands useful.

In this month of remembrance, I bring to you those who have gone before us, especially the ones I miss most. Grant them rest and light in your presence.

Holy Spirit, guard me through the hours ahead. Give me strength for what is hard, protection on every road I travel, and a quiet heart that returns to you when the day is done. Amen.

Blessing

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be your rest and your shelter today. May the Father steady your steps, and may the Holy Spirit keep you in peace until evening comes.

๐Ÿ“– โ€œCome unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.โ€ โ€” Matthew 11:28-29

Midday prayer

A First Friday midday prayer for rest

Asking for renewed purpose, patience with others and trust in God's providence

Set down your work for a few minutes and breathe. Bring the morning behind you and the afternoon ahead to the gentle Heart of Jesus.

Lord Jesus, the day is half spent, and I stop here between one task and the next. The messages, the errands and the unfinished conversations can wait a little while I turn toward you.

You said, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls" (Matthew 11:28-29). On this First Friday I lay my tiredness beside your Sacred Heart. Teach me your meekness with the colleague who tries my patience, the customer who is curt, the family member who calls at the wrong moment.

Today we remember your Passion. Let whatever small sacrifice I have chosen be offered quietly, without complaint, joined to the love with which you carried the cross. When the afternoon feels long, remind me that you walked a harder road for me.

Father, I do not know how the rest of this day will unfold, but I trust your providence. You see the bills on the table, the worries I carry for those I love, the plans still unfinished. Renew my purpose, so that the work of my hands may serve others and honour you. In this month of remembrance, grant rest and light to the faithful departed, especially those whose names I hold in my heart. Holy Spirit, send me back to my work steady and kind.

Amen.

Blessing

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus give you rest in the middle of your labour and patience for every person you meet. May the Father's providence carry you through this afternoon, and may the Holy Spirit keep you gentle until evening comes.

Evening prayer

A Friday evening prayer at the Sacred Heart

Thanksgiving, honest examination, forgiveness and peaceful rest in Christ

As this First Friday of November draws to a close, pause for a few quiet minutes. Bring your day, your loved ones and your tiredness to the meek and humble Heart of Jesus.

Lord Jesus, this Friday is drawing to a close, and I come to you with all that it held. Thank you for the work my hands could do, for the meals shared, for the conversations that went well and the small mercies I barely noticed. Thank you for the people who carried me today, and for the ones you let me carry.

On this First Friday I look toward your Sacred Heart, pierced for love of me, and I let it show me the truth about my day. Where was I impatient with those at home? Where did I speak too quickly, or stay silent when kindness was needed? Where did worry about money, work or tomorrow crowd you out? I name these before you without excuse, and I ask your forgiveness.

Teach me also to forgive. I place in your hands the person who hurt me today and the slight I keep replaying. Soften what has hardened in me, so that I may sleep without resentment.

You said, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls" (Matthew 11:28-29). Tonight I take you at your word. I lay down my unfinished tasks and my weariness.

In this month of remembering, I entrust to you my loved ones who have died; grant them light and peace. Watch over my family through the night, and as Sunday approaches, prepare my heart to meet you again. Into your hands I commend my spirit. Amen.

Blessing

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus keep you in its gentle peace through the hours of the night. May the Father forgive what was lacking today, and may the Holy Spirit grant you rest for your soul. Amen.
