Wednesday morning prayer for the middle of the week

Perseverance at the halfway point, with Saint Joseph the quiet worker

Morning Prayer editorial team ยท Updated: November 2026

Wednesday is the middle of the week, far enough from Sunday to feel tired and far enough from Friday to feel long. It is also the day the Church dedicates to Saint Joseph, the quiet worker. This Wednesday morning prayer asks for perseverance at the halfway point.

Let us pray

Lord, it is Wednesday, the hinge of the week. Half of what I planned is done, or half is not, and I am somewhere in the middle, neither fresh nor finished. Meet me here, in the middle, where most of life actually happens.

Thank You for Monday and Tuesday: for what went well and for what I survived. Thank You that You were present in both, even when I did not notice. Forgive the impatience of these first days, the words I spoke too quickly, the prayer I skipped because I was busy.

Give me perseverance today. Not the burst of energy of a beginning, nor the relief of an ending, but the steady, unglamorous faithfulness of the middle. Help me do the next task well, make the next call kindly, and keep the promise I made on Monday when it felt easier.

Saint Joseph, this is your day. You spent most of your life in the middle: no angels after Egypt, no miracles in the workshop, just wood, bread, and a boy growing up under your roof. Teach me to find God in the ordinary Wednesday, and pray for everyone who works with their hands today.

Bless the rest of this week, Lord. Give me energy for Thursday, grace for Friday, and the hope of Sunday already shining on the horizon. Keep my family safe, and let me come home tonight with enough left over to love them. Amen.

Blessing

May God give you perseverance at the midpoint of the week, and may Saint Joseph, the quiet worker, pray for you this Wednesday.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Wednesday dedicated to Saint Joseph?

By an old devotional custom each weekday has a focus: Monday the Holy Spirit and the souls in purgatory, Tuesday the angels, Wednesday Saint Joseph, Thursday the Eucharist, Friday the Passion, Saturday Our Lady. Many parishes hold Saint Joseph devotions on Wednesdays.

Which Rosary mysteries are prayed on Wednesday?

The Glorious Mysteries: the Resurrection, the Ascension, the Descent of the Holy Spirit, the Assumption, and the Coronation of Mary. They are a good midweek lift when energy is flagging.

How do I keep praying when the week wears me down?

Shorten rather than skip. A single paragraph of this prayer, or even one sentence offered on the way to work, keeps the thread of the week connected to God. Faithfulness in small things is exactly what Saint Joseph models.
